Here it is
As promised, I did a repurposing of the Andymism design. Since all I really did was move around a few elements and add a sidebar, I guess I wouldn’t call what I did a redesign. But, call it what you want.
One of the things that pushed me for a redesign of this site was the sidebar. Originally, I didn’t want to include a sidebar, I didn’t think anyone really needs one. But as I worked more and more with the site, I noticed that, as I add more content, it’ll become more and more difficult to browse through what I have. I added the sidebar to facilitate exploration–and to make twitters less of a main course on this site.
I’m really diggin’ my new header in a far out way. The type experiments I ran to come up with it, I was looking for something subversive, striking, and clean. I think that’s what I got, and a juicy amount of white space too.
Of course, the design isn’t done. Wordpress seems to have a hundreds of nooks and crannies that I’ve been too busy to dig into right now. But I’m getting them as they come up. There are a few things that don’t work perfectly yet. The sidebar might be a little too wide and there could probably be a bit more margin on its left. I’m planning to make the links under the Recent Drawings heading in the sidebar into thumbnails rather than the text links they are right now. And there are a handful of other things too (including some issues with IE6 and transparent PNGs, I know, but I’ve been too lazy to fire up Parallels to test that).
If you can’t tell, I think orange, black, and white are really groovy colors.
Yup. Time to get some sleep.
PS - I’m also overdue for an update on my self-employedness. I’ll do that soon.
